Circular economy

Circular economy is a strategy that reduces the negative impact on the environment by offering an alternative to the traditional business model, in which the final product becomes the source of value creation and reaches its peak upon consumption.

At COMPAS we incorporate the circular economy model into all processes with the purpose of improving the efficient use of resources, minimizing waste generation, and promoting the management of a new life for the waste produced.

One of the most notable achievements in 2025 was obtaining the Icontec “Zero Waste” Version 5 certification, Gold category — a recognition of COMPAS’s high level of efficiency in waste management.
This seal validates the implementation of a system that significantly reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and promotes a culture of reduction, reuse, and recycling.

Some key figures from our 2024 performance:

  • More than COP $435 million saved through final disposal of reused waste.

  • Over COP $130 million in revenue from the sale of recyclable materials.

  • Donation of 1,788 tons of organic waste for composting and animal feed.

  • Proper handling of 745,230 kg of recycled waste.

This circular economy approach has received international recognition.
In 2024, COMPAS was awarded the Maritime Award of the Americas for Green Management and Port Sustainability, granted by the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the OAS, for projects related to the collection, use, and efficient consumption of rainwater and recirculated water at 3 of our 5 terminals.
